Is Your Leadership Disengaged?

Is Your Leadership Disengaged? | Retain Top Talent | Scoop.it
When you as a leader are disengaged, it causes your employees to be disengaged.
Barry Deutsch's insight:

Are some of your managers who lead the bulk of your employees having issues about their own engagement. Front line employees observe this attitude and become disengaged when their boss is disengaged.

Here's the quote that reinforced this idea:

"Leader disengagement often happens for the same reasons as employee disengagement. They don’t feel respected by their manager, they don’t feel like they have a say in decision making, and they aren’t kept in the loop in terms of communication. Finally, they usually don’t receive enough positive feedback and appreciation themselves as leaders. Lack of leader motivation and engagement tends to breed cynicism, sarcasm, and negativity in the leader."

Why employers need to recognize employees

Why employers need to recognize employees | Retain Top Talent | Scoop.it
Since remote workers are "out of sight, out of mind," some employers may neglect formal recognition. That's a mistake, experts say.
Barry Deutsch's insight:

This is exactly what I am seeing over the last 6 months at many of my clients - a decline in employee engagement activities like celebrations, fun, team building, recognition, one-to-ones - all because your team members are out of sight - out of mind.

We should be doing the opposite - and reinvigorating our efforts around engagement, recognition, automony, development, training, coaching, mentoring - all the activities and initiatives that lead your employees to want to lean in and show discretionary effort like proactivity, initiative, doing more than asked, being inquisitive, problem solving VS. just trying to survive and do the minimum so they can stay on your payroll system.

How Recognition Helps in Retaining Employees

How Recognition Helps in Retaining Employees | Retain Top Talent | Scoop.it
Failure to recognize top performers leads to low retention rates. Learn how leaders can retain talent through changes in the company culture.
Barry Deutsch's insight:

Recognition is the second most important element of engaging employees to drive high productivity. Why then do most companies give it little focus or effort. In at least 75% of the companies I have engaged with in the 60 complimentary 90 minute workshops I've done for Vistage Groups there is no comprehensive program for non-monetary rewards and recognition.

The result is a shameful level of low productivity since the majority of your employees believe that you don't care if they work hard and put in extra effort.

The Science of Employee Recognition and Rewards

The Science of Employee Recognition and Rewards | Retain Top Talent | Scoop.it
Think employee recognition is fluff? Think again. This stats-driven guide reveals the value of employee recognition, plus how it can transform your company.
Barry Deutsch's insight:

More statistics on the value of having a good employee engagement and recognition strategy and process.

"81% of employees say they’re motivated to work harder when their boss shows appreciation"

That by itself should be enough of an incentive to create a good program. Most companies recognition and engagement programs are either non-existent, left up to individual managers, or so superficial they border on useless.

Second most important element in driving productivity. We wonder as CEOs and senior execs why the productivity of the organization is so bad compared to where it should be.

When people don't feel engaged and appreciated, they give you the absolute rock bottom minimal level of effort that they think you'll tolerate without firing them. Shameful!
