How to Stay Motivated When You’re (Still) Stuck at Home

You’re tired, mad, and lonely. So, what can you do about it?
Barry Deutsch's insight:

Here's an interesting article published by HBR that caused me to reflect and perhaps put myself in my "employee's shoes". I started thinking about their perspective of working from home and feeling isolated, separated from the company culture, loss of interaction and communication, a sudden drop off in feedback from my boss, a complete stop of any engagement/motivational strategies, and a level of fear of losing my job since no one is communicating what's happening with the company. It almost might feel like the management team has put their head in their hands with a "woe is me" attitude, praying that things might get better.

Layer that onto the stress of paycuts, furloughs, lack of direction, home schooling, and 2 spouses working from home.

Might our employees not become angry, upset, frustrated, feeling disconnected? What can we do about it?

Why is Employee Recognition Important?

Why is Employee Recognition Important? | Retain Top Talent | Scoop.it
Disengaged employees cost businesses an estimated $550 billion dollars last year in the United States alone. Employee Recognition can fix that.
Barry Deutsch's insight:

So few companies are focused around employee engagement. As the author indicates, the cost is astronomical. Culture, morale, productivity, and customer satisfaction are just a few of the areas affected by employee engagement.

If these points are well-researched and accepted - why then do most companies and executives choose to ignore the fundamental issues around improving employee engagement?

How to develop an employee engagement strategy for new employees

How to develop an employee engagement strategy for new employees | Retain Top Talent | Scoop.it
With up to 20% of staff turnover happening within the first 45 days on the job, it’s vital that leaders ensure the dream sold at interview is every part the reality, argues Kerry Drury....
Barry Deutsch's insight:

First the bad news: 20% turnover in first 45 days. Horrible!

What I liked about the article was what has been known up to this point as an on-boarding plan - takes on a new dimension as a customized employee engagement plan for each new hire.

What if you did this with every new hire?
