To Engage and Retain Employees Provide a “Mini” Job Rotation During Employee Orientation

To Engage and Retain Employees Provide a “Mini” Job Rotation During Employee Orientation | Retain Top Talent | Scoop.it
Have you noticed that, in many companies, employees often have no clue what many of the other employees in other functions do to support the overall organization? When you look at how companies typically onboard new employees and the lack of follow-up employee development training, it's not at all...
Barry Deutschs insight:

This is an interesting idea for on-boarding. I actually had to do this years ago when starting a couple of new jobs. I think it's great way to gain appreciation for what goes on in other departments and a way to get to know folks.

Have you tried out this on-boarding idea in your organization. Even if it's not job rotation, it could at least be a shadowing experience.

38 Employee Appreciation Quotes to Recognize Others

38 Employee Appreciation Quotes to Recognize Others | Retain Top Talent | Scoop.it
Discover how everyone in your organization can start practicing recognition by drawing on these inspiring employee appreciation quotes.
Barry Deutschs insight:

Many of my clients look to me for specific language and vehicles through which they can recognize their employees - showing gratitude, appreciation, and being thankful. Geniune caring human behavior. I find that many managers struggle to show their appreciation because they have never been coached on how to do it. Secondly, I observe during this hard economic time and health care crisis, many managers have lost their caring and sensitivity. Unless your culture reinforces the need to show it, most of the time appreciation, recognition, and thanking others just falls through the cracks. Is your organization guilty of this?

How to Lift Employee Morale in the Workplace When Managing Remote Teams

How to Lift Employee Morale in the Workplace When Managing Remote Teams | Retain Top Talent | Scoop.it
Like all engagement strategies, there are plenty of ways to motivate your team. But if you're struggling, it might be time to try something new & creative.
Barry Deutschs insight:

I especially liked the paragraph in this article on getting creative around engaging, motivating, involving, stimulating, building team cohesion. The problem is that most companies can't even begin to explore these creative ideas because they haven't yet implemented the basic fundamentals of employee engagement like defining success for the role, having a great recognition process, and doing frequent discussions (one to ones) around subjects of learning, impact, and becoming - stay interviews.

Conducting One Specific Type Of Interview Can Boost Employee Engagement

Conducting One Specific Type Of Interview Can Boost Employee Engagement | Retain Top Talent | Scoop.it
To increase employee engagement, you need to know what the cause of the disengagement and dissatisfaction is in the first place. Conducting one specific type of interview can help you find out what that is.
Barry Deutschs insight:

One element of conducting an effective one-to-on I suggest in my workshops on Engaging Employees - You're the Person We Want to Keep, and in my workshop Managing Remotely in a Crisis is the idea of conducting a LIB Discussion (Learning, Impact, and Becoming). In HR terminology this is called a Stay Interview. It's a powerful way to re-engage your employees. I recommend spending 15-20 minutes on this LIB dialogue at least once a quarter. See my LinkedIn article on what questions to ask and how to stimulate this conversation.

How To Boost Remote Employee Engagement On A Shoestring Budget

How To Boost Remote Employee Engagement On A Shoestring Budget | Retain Top Talent | Scoop.it
Since quarantine transformed the dynamics of how many companies operate, employers have been wondering how to maintain morale, and keep their teams enthusiastic and committed from afar.
Barry Deutschs insight:

Some of my clients worry that starting down the path of employee engagement will be expensive - giving out awards, hiring an HR professional, creating a budget. This recent Forbes article talks about how to do it on a shoestring budget. One of the shoestring tactics they mention is my favorite one to talk about in my workshops on employee engagement and retention - giving praise. Doesn't cost a dime - but most companies so poorly use it that it's bordering on a worthless tactic. You might consider training your management team how to be better at showing empathy, gratitude, appreciation, and being thankful for the work your employees do daily.

New Survey Reveals Only 17% of Employees Give Their Company | Retain Top Talent | Scoop.it
A new survey issued by Topia, an HR tech company specializing in Global Talent Mobility and managing distributed workforces...
Barry Deutschs insight:

None of this should be a surprise, particularly given Gallups research that shows 50-70 percent of your employees are not engaged. All the studies that have been done over the last decade or more show pretty consistent results of employee dissatisfaction, disengagement, and consequently low productivity.

As I am demonstrating to many Vistage Groups in my talk on Managing Remotely in a Criss - these issues get amplified with folks working outside of the office. Are you accepting low productivity or working on initiatives to let it SOAR?

How Recognition Helps in Retaining Employees

How Recognition Helps in Retaining Employees | Retain Top Talent | Scoop.it
Failure to recognize top performers leads to low retention rates. Learn how leaders can retain talent through changes in the company culture.
Barry Deutschs insight:

Recognition is the second most important element of engaging employees to drive high productivity. Why then do most companies give it little focus or effort. In at least 75% of the companies I have engaged with in the 60 complimentary 90 minute workshops I've done for Vistage Groups there is no comprehensive program for non-monetary rewards and recognition.

The result is a shameful level of low productivity since the majority of your employees believe that you don't care if they work hard and put in extra effort.

Impact of Employee Engagement on Productivity & Quality

Impact of Employee Engagement on Productivity & Quality | Retain Top Talent | Scoop.it
It is evident that the workforce from most organizations is operating remotely now, owing to the pandemic.Management in most organizations are working...
Barry Deutschs insight:

One of the topics I speak on in my complimentary presentation for Vistage Groups titled Managing Remotely in a Crisis is for managers to show empathy toward their team members.

Here's that key point being reinforced. The key is training managers how to be empathic - since for most managers it is not naturally occuring.

Here's the quote:

"Be trained on practicing empathy during this extreme situation. This can start as a weekly session and everyone can share their real-life stories where they displayed empathy with each other.

This allows your employees and supervisors to understand each other and this approach drives employee engagement and productivity in the whole team."

How to use your network to survive a bad job market | Retain Top Talent | Scoop.it
You may already know that successful job-searching requires networking, but how extensively should you reach out?...
Barry Deutschs insight:

In down job markets (30 million unemployed heading for 45 million before the end of the year), networking vs. advertising becomes the dominant method of job hunting for top performers.

Studies show that 80-85% of all jobs never get advertised - they are filled through informal networks and referrals. Unfortunately, most job hunters don't start thinking about the strength of their networks until they desperately need a job. Always be networking.

Barry Deutschs insight:

I heard a fellow speaker the other day make the comment that "all companies are now technology companies."

Unfortunately, about half the organizations I deal with are still stuck in a 1970s model of working. Not exploring these tools basically means you are allowing your competitors to become much more productive - and they will eventually bypass you on all dimensions of success.

Barry Deutschs insight:

As I have been teaching in my Complimentary one hour Vistage Workshops on Managing Remotely in a Crisis - this is a horrible method to manage performance. It's micro-management and "big brother" looking over your shoulder. It basically says we don't trust you. It's the easy way of out defining real performance mangagement like outcomes, deliverables, expecations, metrics, and KPIs. STOP using monitoring software. It creates a culture of mistrust.
